League Island
The proposed League Island station would be located at the intersection of Broad Street and Kitty Hawk Avenue within the former Philadelphia Navy Yard. League Island is the previous name for the location of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard (a.k.a. the Navy Yard) prior to elimination of the Back Channel waterway. The location provides the opportunity to support transit oriented development within the former Navy Yard complex. No parking would be provided. Transit access would be provided by an extension of current SEPTA bus services acting as a circulator within the complex. Projected residential development will add a moderate component of pedestrian access.
Over the past two decades, commercial redevelopment has occurred at the Navy Yard. Building on this trend, this station would support mixed-use and/or residential Transit Oriented Development of appropriate urban densities.
